The Isle School District will be starting its GED program
for adults to obtain an equivalency high school diploma. The program will
begin September 11, 2004, and will run through May. The classroom will be open on Thursday evenings from 6:30 to
8:30 pm. (Other options are available
upon request)
The General
Educational Development (GED) Program allows the adult learner to obtain an
equivalency diploma. This
credential is recognized as a key to job opportunities, advancement, further
education and financial awards.
Upon
successful completion of the five test subjects, a high school equivalency
diploma is awarded by the Minnesota Department of Education.
Preparation
classes are available to help the adult learner prior to the test session. (Help is also available for those
adults who have their GED or high school diploma but want to brush-up in a
particular skill area for their own enrichment or as a way to help their
children with homework.)

19 years of age or obtain an age
waiver.

Waiver of the Minimum Age
Requirement for GED Testing
A Minnesota
resident below the age of 19 who has either formally withdrawn or been removed
from the attendance rolls a public or non-public school may qualify for a
waiver of the minimum age requirement for GED testing, providing one of the following criteria is met and
adequately documented.*
1. Applicant has been removed from
school rolls for more than one year (12 months).
OR
2. Applicant’s high school class has
graduated.
OR
3. Employer has indicated in writing that
successful completion of the GED tests is required for employment or
promotional opportunity.
OR
4. Post secondary educational institution
has indicated in writing that applicant has applied for admission/financial aid
and been accepted
pending the successful completion of GED Diploma requirements.
OR
5. Military recruiter has indicated in
writing that applicant must successfully complete GED Diploma requirements in
order to enlist in the Armed Forces.
OR
6. Adult Basic Education or Other
recognized educational, social service, or correctional agency has indicated in
writing that successfully completing the GED tests is part of applicant’s
individual educational plan and that applicant has passed a minimum of three of
the five official GED practice sub-tests with a standard score of 50 or higher.
OR
*Applicant who applies for an age waiver before the age of 18 must also provide a signed statement by his/her parent or legal guardian approving of the application.
