SCHOOL BUS REGULATIONS
THE DRIVERS ARE JUST AS MUCH IN CHARGE OF THE STUDENTS ON THE BUS AS ARE THE TEACHERS IN THE CLASSROOM.
All students will follow these regulations:
At the bus stop Students will:
- Arrive at the bus stop 5 minutes before scheduled.
- Wait quietly in a safe place. They will not play in roadway. There will be no horseplay.
- Be considerate of other peoples property. Stay off lawns, flowers, shrubs, trees and other property.
- Stand back from the road. Give the bus driver room to stop.
Boarding the bus Students will:
- For students who must cross the road:
1. Check traffic in both directions.
2. Wait until driver or school patrol person signals students to cross.
3. Check traffic again.
4. Cross about 10 feet in front of bus.
- Form a single line. Dont crowd or push.
- Use the handrail.
- Take steps one at a time.
- Greet the bus driver.
- Go directly to a seat.
On the bus Students will:
- Remain seated until the bus reaches its destination and comes to a full stop.
- Sit facing the front of the bus.
- Keep feet off seats.
- Keep aisle clear.
- Keep bus clean.
- Smoking is prohibited on school bus.
- No drinking of pop or refreshments is permitted.
- Keep head, arms and hands inside the bus at all times.
- Keep books, coats and all other objects on laps or under the seat.
- Speak quietly; a single voice should not be heard above the general level of conversation. - Profanity or abusive language is not permitted.
- Treat the school bus with proper respect. There should be no vandalism.
- Obey the bus drivers directions promptly.
- Never throw objects around in the bus or out the windows.
- Never open the windows without the drivers permission.
Leaving the bus Students will:
- Remain seated until the bus stops.
- Never push and shove.
- Move quickly.
- Let those closest to the door go first.
- Use handrail and take steps one at a time.
- Move away from bus so that driver can see them and they can see the driver.
For students who must cross the roadway Students will:
- After leaving the bus, move forward to a point at least 10 feet in front of the bus.
- Wait for the driver or bus patrol person to signal to cross.
- Stop briefly and check traffic carefully in both directions.
- If clear, cross quickly but do not run.
School Students Riding other buses
- School students who wish to ride home on someone elses bus must bring a note from home and get a permit from the dean or dean's office to present to the bus driver.
Non-Isle Student Riders
- No outsiders may ride a school bus to school or to school-sponsored activities because they are not covered by school insurance.
Other:
1. Bus driver is authorized to assign seats.
2. Bus drivers are expected to report to the school administrators, pupils who persist in ignoring these rules.
3. Students who persist in ignoring school bus regulations will be issued an ISLE TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT BUS VIOLATION TICKET indicating the problem and the consequences. The parent/guardians copy must be signed and returned to the bus driver before the student will be allowed to ride on the bus again.
4. School administrator will counsel with pupils reported to be breaking rules.
5. Discipline problems on the bus will transfer to the level system when: A. Severe misbehavior occurs (fighting, alcohol or tobacco, etc.)
B. Referral by bus driver/Transportation Director for suspension of bus riding privileges.
6. The school administration welcomes parental conferences with parents who feel their child is having problems during the time they spend on the bus.
7. Video taping equipment may be used to monitor student behavior on buses..
8. Serious misbehavior, apart from any ticket violations, may result in immediate suspension from riding privileges.
9. In all cases where suspension of bus privileges is a factor of punishment, school officials shall be involved in the final decision.
